We would like to say thank you to all of you who have contributed/committed to the homeless project.  Your generosity is greatly appreciated.  If anyone feels inspired, there are still some items needed…details available on “reaching out” entry.

When our adventure first began back in June we had no doubt that God would take care of all of the details including the impossible.  God has perfect timing.

My mother in law was living with us.  She is 90 years old.  We had a few ideas but never quite sure where she would reside while we were on our trip.  Her abilities have been changing quite rapidly over the past few years.  In October, we started to pursue homecare.  We always knew that this would just be a temporary fix.  Over the last few months due to a fall followed by illness it became quite evident that her needs were becoming too challenging for my physical abilities.  Mom was never too keen on us pursuing home care so when we started to look at special care homes we were quite nervous about her response. Tat began praying about how to approach the subject with mom.  She had become accustomed to living with family for approximately 20 years.  One day at the dinner table mom stated that she thought it was time for her to go somewhere.  This opened up the door to approach the subject of a special care home.  It was discussed at this time that a location close to family would be ideal.   She became quite accepting that this was the next step.  What a miracle right there!

Finding residency for a loved one is an extremely emotionally difficult process for everyone involved.  Finding one in the location that you desire can prove to be more challenging.  Finding one with an immediate opening is almost impossible.  We were able to find a placement two hours away from us in a town where mom has many relatives.  My first enquiry with this residence was to the owner who was able to answer all of my questions.  The following day I had a few more question but wasn’t able to reach the owner.  During my second phone call with the home I was stopped  by a voice asking “Is that you Brigitte?”  The voice was that of mom’s niece. She works at the special care home and had in fact just been transferred there a week prior to my making inquiries about placement.  Mom would still be living with family!  God is awesome.  Another family member lives just six houses down the street.

It took a while to activate the home care but it started just in time to have someone help mom sort through her things and pack.  This helped to ease the emotional piece for me and mom in this task.  Because we were pursuing home care we had in fact unknowingly completed all of the assessments and paperwork that was needed to place mom in the special care home.  As a result mom was able to move in to her new residency within two weeks of my first enquiry.  Another miracle!

The owners of mom’s new residence are Christian.  God’s hand has been over every aspect of this chapter of our journey.  We are very happy to report that mom is doing very well and loves her new home.

And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.   Philippians 4:19 (NIV)

  1. This is a great and clear explanation. I can say that because I heard the oral one mixed with emotion. Yes, God has been in the process, and I can sense how heart-warming that must be. Please give our best to Delia the next time you see her. Romans 8:28.
